President Mahama Urges Churches to Offer Hope to Jobless Youth, Struggling Families

ACCRA, Ghana, 14th October: President John Dramani Mahama has urged churches to make their teachings relevant to the everyday challenges facing people, particularly young people worried about employment and families experiencing hardship.

He said the Christian message must respond to the realities of people’s lives, including their hopes, doubts, struggles and questions.

Speaking at the opening of the 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, President Mahama called on church leaders to renew their commitment to serving people in their respective communities.

“For the Church, that trust must be renewed in every generation. The message must reach people in the circumstances of their lives, in their hopes, in their doubts, in their struggles and in their questions,” he said.

The President stressed that young people anxious about employment should find hope in the Church, while families under pressure should receive care and support from their religious communities.

“A young person who is anxious about employment must hear hope in our words. A family that is under strain must find care within our fellowship,” he stated.

He added that people experiencing grief should find comfort, while those who feel forgotten should be reminded of their worth and dignity.

President Mahama argued that the credibility of the Church depends not only on the message it preaches but also on how its members treated others.

He encouraged delegates to strengthen the link between proclaiming the Gospel and providing practical assistance to people in need.

According to him, this could include feeding hungry children, treating patients with compassion, equipping young people with skills, supporting widows and standing beside families experiencing difficulties.

The President further urged Christians to carry the values they practise in worship into their workplaces and neighbourhoods, stressing that everyday acts of honesty, fairness and compassion could demonstrate the practical value of faith.

The congress has attracted more than 10,000 participants from different countries and is being held under the theme, “Commissioned, One Mandate, Every Nation.”
