President Mahama Praises Assemblies of God Ghana for Growth

ACCRA, Ghana, 12th October: President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Assemblies of God Church in Ghana for its continued growth, revealing that his local assembly at Ringway Gospel Centre is considering further expansion to accommodate increasing membership.

He said the church had continued to attract new members, creating pressure on existing facilities and prompting discussions about expanding its capacity.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Assemblies of God Executive Committee at the Presidency, President Mahama disclosed that his local assembly had once baptised about 90 new members in a single batch.

He said the church hall was increasingly becoming full, raising questions about how to accommodate additional worshippers if the pace of evangelisation continued.

“In my own local assembly, one day, we baptised about 90 new members in one batch,” he stated.

President Mahama added that the church is considering another expansion of its facilities, which would be the third time its capacity had been increased to accommodate growing membership.

He attributed the broader growth of the Assemblies of God Church in Ghana partly to the leadership of its General Superintendent, Reverend Stephen Wengam.

“Since Reverend Wengam became the General Superintendent, the image of the church has continued to grow from strength to strength,” the President said.

He described the Ghanaian church as one of the leading Pentecostal-charismatic churches in the country and praised the contributions of its members to the wider Christian movement.

President Mahama said the church was pleased to be hosting an international congress at a time when its local membership was growing.

He expressed confidence that the gathering would be successful and that delegates visiting Ghana would return home with pleasant memories of the country.

The President also commended the Local Organising Committee for its preparations, acknowledging the logistical challenges involved in coordinating a congress of international scale.

He welcomed the church’s Executive Committee, led by Global Chairman Dominic Yeo, and expressed his readiness to participate in the congress.
