BOLE, Ghana, 22nd May: President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of several communities in the Savannah Region that they will soon be connected to the national electricity grid as part of efforts to improve access to power and accelerate development in the area.
Speaking at Bole during his two-day #ResettingGhana Tour of the Savannah Region, President Mahama said the Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, John Jinapor, had informed him that contracts for the electrification projects had already been awarded.
According to the President, contractors have already visited the affected communities to inspect the sites and are mobilising to begin work.
“The Minister of Energy and Green Transitions is here. And he has assured that the contracts have been awarded and that the contractors have already come to inspect and they are mobilizing to come and start” he said.
President Mahama expressed optimism that work on the electrification projects would commence within the next month.
“And we expect that within the next one month, the contractors who are supposed to conduct the electrification of our communities will be on ground and will start working. Savannah was one of the most underserved regions in terms of electricity supply.We want to bring Savannah up to the level of all the other regions in terms of access to electricity” he said.
The President noted that expanding electricity coverage in the Savannah Region remains a key priority under his government’s development agenda aimed at improving livelihoods, supporting businesses, and creating opportunities for residents.
