President John Dramani Mahama has directed the technical team of the Ministry of Roads and Highways to immediately inspect a bridge in the Nadowli-Kaleo area following concerns raised by traditional leaders during his visit to the constituency.
The President issued the directive during an inspection of an ongoing 24-Hour Market project at Nadowli-Kaleo as part of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper West Region.
President Mahama said the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways was present during the inspection and instructed him to ensure that the technical team assessed the condition of the bridge without delay.
“On the bridge that the chiefs spoke about, fortunately the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways is here,” the President said.
“I have instructed him to direct the technical team to inspect the bridge immediately,” he added.
According to the President, government already has the steel components required for the bridge works, paving the way for a relatively quick intervention once the technical assessment is completed.
He directed the relevant authorities to mobilise and install the steel components to reopen the area and restore access for residents.
“We already have the steel components, so they should mobilise and install them to open up the area,” President Mahama said.
The directive followed concerns raised by chiefs in the area about the bridge and its impact on movement within the community.
President Mahama said the government would continue to respond to critical infrastructure needs alongside the implementation of major development projects.
The President was in Nadowli-Kaleo as part of the first day of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper West Region, during which he inspected ongoing government projects.
He also inspected the construction of the constituency’s 24-Hour Market and commended the contractor for the progress of work.
President Mahama said the government was constructing similar markets in all 261 constituencies to create trading spaces and stimulate economic activity in communities across the country.
He expressed confidence that the Nadowli-Kaleo market would be completed to the required standard and said he would return with traditional leaders and other stakeholders to commission the facility.
