BOLE, Ghana, 22nd May: President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has announced that government is currently re-scoping phase two of the Big Push infrastructure project as part of efforts to accelerate road development across the country.
Speaking on Friday, 22nd May, during his two-day #ResettingGhana Tour of the Savannah Region, President Mahama said significant progress had already been made under phase one of the project, with road construction ongoing simultaneously in several parts of the country.
According to him, about 2,000 kilometres of roads are currently under construction under the Big Push initiative.
“we are re-scoping phase two of the Big Push project. As you know, I commissioned the start of the Big Push project several months ago. Since then, work is going on on about 2,000 kilometers of roads all around the country, all at the same time, all paid with our own resources. Our Ghanaian cedis, we are paying for all those roads ourselves” he said.
President Mahama stressed that the projects are being financed entirely with Ghana’s own resources, describing it as a major demonstration of the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
He disclosed that the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, would officially announce phase two of the Big Push project when he presents the national budget to Parliament in November this year.
The President further assured chiefs and residents of the Savannah Region that several roads within the region had been captured under the next phase of the project.
“There is a second phase that we are scoping and it will be announced by the Minister of Finance when he presents the budget in November this year to Parliament. And I can assure my fathers that your roads are contained in the Big Push project for next year. So you will hear it. It will be announced in the budget in November and early next year we will have the contractors on the ground working on the roads” he stated.

The President’s first stop was at Sawla, where he witnessed demonstrations of projects under the National Basic Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (BSTEM) programme for basic schools at the Sawla D/A Basic School.
He later proceeded to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation works on the Sawla-Wa highway and the Bole-Tinga road being undertaken under the Big Push Project.
As part of activities on the first day of his visit, President Mahama also cut sod for the construction of the Bole District 24-hour Economy Model Market and other development projects at the Bole College of Education, among others.
