‘President Akufo Addo is just protecting NPP big wigs with the aim of fighting galamsey- Bright Honu alleges

Aspiring National Deputy Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bright Nudokpo-Honu has said the Akufo Addo led NPP government is just protecting the big men in the party with the aim of fighting against galamsey.

According to him, he has not seen any fight because almost all the big men in the NPP are doing galamsey, hence what is the essence of their effort to stop such act.

Speaking to Ahotor news, Mr Nudokpo-Honu called on the government to do the needful if truly they want the people of Ghana to believe them or else, they should give us a break.

“I didn’t see any fight, so far we are only deceiving Ghanaians that we are fighting galamsey under this regime” he said.

Again, he called on Ghanaians to know that, the only party that can help solve galamsey menace in the country is the NDC, because former president John Dramani Mahama has said that he has good plans for such act and all technocrats will be involve when the NDC comes to power for proper mining.

To him, the NDC has the track record on the fight against galamsey because none of the officials in the past NDC government was accused of involving in such act during their tenure of office, he added.

In a statement issued on September 30, the Ministry said it has taken note of “publications about certain operations by Akonta Mining Limited in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve in the Amenfi West Municipality in the Western Region”.

Akonta Mining Limited is an asset of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’.

But according to the Ministry, even though Akonta Mining Limited has a mining lease to undertake mining operations in some parts of Samreboi, outside the Forest Reserve, “the company has no mineral right to undertake any mining operations in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve”.
