POLITICAL FIGURES CAN STAND FOR DISTRICT-LEVEL ELECTIONS – EC

The Electoral Commission EC has clarified that the country’s law does not prohibit politicians from contesting district-level elections.


According to the E.C., political figures can stand for election but they cannot do so in any political party’s ticket.


The Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms. Kathleen Addy, has urged all stakeholders and the public to actively participate in the upcoming district-level elections.


Her call to Ghanaians is to elect assembly members with a sincere commitment to local development.
She encouraged voters to assess candidates based on their track records, skills, and plans for community enhancement and development before voting.


she emphasized that electing candidates with a genuine commitment to local development would help alleviate the additional burden on elected members of Parliament to address local issues within their legislative duties.


Speaking to the media, the Director of electoral services at the Electoral Commission Dr. Srebour Quacoo stressed that, no law preventing politicians from participating in the December 19, elections.
