The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspected arms trafficker in connection with an ongoing intelligence-led operation targeting an illegal arms trafficking syndicate operating in Tema and other parts of the country.
In a statement, the Police said the suspect, whose identity has been withheld to protect the integrity of the investigations, is believed to be a key figure within the criminal network. He was arrested on July 9, 2026, after allegedly supplying an AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number AZ71551999, a magazine loaded with 10 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and a 9mm automatic pistol.
According to the Police, the weapons and ammunition have been retrieved and retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations into the activities of the syndicate.

The Service said the latest arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms and dismantle criminal networks involved in the illicit arms trade.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to identify, locate and arrest other members of the syndicate.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public safety and urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information that will help combat organised crime across the country.
