Parliament’s Committee on Energy and Green Transition has called for greater reliance on reliable and accurate data in policymaking, saying data-driven decision-making is critical to improving infrastructure, enhancing energy efficiency and promoting sustainable economic growth.
Vice Chairman of the Committee, Albert Nyakotey Tetteh, said Parliament would champion policies that promote the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to strengthen planning and decision-making across key sectors.
According to him, integrating GIS and other modern data-driven technologies into national planning would improve the collection, analysis and application of data for infrastructure development, energy planning and broader economic development.
Mr. Tetteh said effective use of GIS could help policymakers identify infrastructure needs more accurately, optimise the allocation of resources and make informed decisions on the country’s energy and development priorities.
He stressed that reliable and timely data is essential to ensuring that public investments respond to actual needs and deliver sustainable outcomes.
The Committee’s position highlights the growing role of technology and geospatial data in addressing development challenges and strengthening evidence-based policymaking.
Mr. Tetteh reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting policies that promote the adoption of modern data and geospatial technologies to improve national planning and advance sustainable development.
