OSP lacks the credibility and resources to fight corruption —- Ivan Kyei Innocent

The Office of the Special Prosecutor can best be described as politically manipulated office to carry out the deeds of the state and just to punished his political opponents.

The office lacks credibility, moral authority and resources to execute independent investigation into high profile corruption going on in the government.

Ivan Kyei Innocent a Researcher and Social Activist said this on Simpieso political talk show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Emmanuel Amartey (Alaska De Don) in Accra.

He is of the view that, the lamentation coming from the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng is much l do about nothing. The state is just trying to create a stage managed system by creating a ploy painting a picture as if he is fighting corruption. In effect speaking to the public through the media as if he is doing his job but the state is putting a lot of stumbling blocks on his way.

Ivan Kyei Innocent reiterated that, creating of this office is not needed since in its operation and the scope of act and law establishing it; is not independent and still under the office of Attorney General which is accountable to the president and more than the interest of the citizen which creates a situation of conflict of interest.

There is no clarity and transparency in all the cases that comes under the OPS office, where all the efforts he endeavor to investigates; his appointing authority are putting stumbling blocks on his way. More especially the judiciary which has received much public perception painting the courts as been corrupt in frustrating the work of the office seems to be true.

In another development, top political cases inside and outside government under his watch he is prosecuting seem to be a useless enterprise since the state is not giving him the necessary support to delve into this top profile government corrupt cases.

He opined that, fighting corruption has to do with strong political will and conviction to change the corrupt status co that the country has suffered in the past and currently that has to do with family and friends and cronyism.

Touching on the Lithium brouhaha, he said it’s very unfortunate and bizarre where the government cannot do self introspection, to examine the mistake we have made in the past in all our exploitation laws and contracts to address this new transaction of lithium.

This he said, the lithium is now a big gold mind and top commodity we have manage to make gains, as clean energy raw materials for national development.

Ivan Kyei Innocent, raised a serious concern saying if care is not taken, the contract governing the lithium mining which has not even received parliamentary approval yet and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Jinapo, pronouncement is likely going to be another deal that will make partners and the company leading in this transaction to exploit the state.
