The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency is optimistic about unseating the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in the 2028 general elections.
The party says its growing grassroots mobilisation, coupled with what it describes as improved economic stability and development initiatives under the current NDC administration, gives it a strong opportunity to win the constituency from the NPP.
The NDC constituency election machinery, together with the efforts of the District Chief Executive (DCE), is said to be working to strengthen the party’s structures and consolidate support ahead of the 2028 elections.
As the NDC prepares for its presidential and parliamentary primaries, the party is also seeking to increase its representation in the Eastern Region, with Ofoase Ayirebi identified as one of the constituencies where it believes it can make significant gains.
Speaking in an interview, Sir John, a member of the Eastern Regional Communications Team of the NDC for Ofoase Ayirebi, said the constituency and the district had witnessed a number of development projects under the current administration.
He said the projects formed part of what he described as the NDC government’s development record and argued that the party could capitalise on its achievements to strengthen its position in the constituency.
According to Sir John, although Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has served as the Member of Parliament for the constituency for the past eight years and is a prominent member of the NPP, the NDC believes the constituency has not benefited sufficiently from development projects during that period.
He maintained that with greater unity among the party’s grassroots supporters, effective teamwork and a reduction in internal divisions, the NDC would be well positioned to win the seat in 2028.
NDC Highlights Development Projects
Sir John cited several projects which he said had been completed or undertaken under the current NDC administration.
Among them are the construction of CHPS compounds, including facilities with residential quarters at Devon and Atannurom, as well as the construction of a CHPS compound at Odumase.
He also mentioned the construction of a two-unit kindergarten block at Mmoframfadwen and a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for Etwereso AME Zion Junior High School.
Additionally, he said more than 20 mechanised boreholes had been constructed to improve access to potable water in communities across the district.
The NDC communicator said such projects demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and social services in the constituency.
DCE Optimistic About Ongoing Projects
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Linda Ahenkora, has also expressed optimism about the completion of major ongoing projects within the district.
She said the assembly would continue to work to ensure that projects being undertaken by the government were completed to the required standards and within the stipulated timelines.
The DCE further urged contractors working on government projects to deliver quality work in accordance with their contractual specifications, stressing the importance of value for money.
With the 2028 elections still ahead, the NDC in Ofoase Ayirebi says it will continue to strengthen its grassroots structures, promote unity among its members and highlight its development record as it seeks to wrestle the parliamentary seat from the NPP.
