Radio Personality Obaapa Janee has thrown her weight behind Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay as a strong contender for the coveted Artiste of the Year award at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
Speaking on Ahotor Mmre on Ahotor 92.3 FM, Obaapa Janee expressed firm confidence in Wendy Shay’s chances, describing this as “her time” to shine. According to her, a close look at the nominees reveals that nearly all the contenders—except rapper Medikal—have already clinched the prestigious award in previous years, making Wendy Shay’s case even more compelling.
She highlighted Wendy Shay’s consistency and growth over the year under review, emphasizing her impact not only in Ghana but also on the international stage. “Wendy has really worked beyond Ghana,” she noted, pointing to her global reach and relentless output as key factors that set her apart.
Obaapa Janee also used the moment to spotlight the broader conversation about gender representation in the music industry. She called for more recognition and appreciation for female artistes who continue to rise and compete fiercely in what remains a male-dominated space.
“Let’s appreciate the women in the music industry who are matching boot for boot with the guys,” she urged, adding that Wendy Shay’s journey is a testament to resilience, talent, and hard work.
As anticipation grows ahead of the awards night, many are now eager to see if Wendy Shay will indeed make history.
