NDC Government Must Find Lasting Solution to Flooding or Risk Political Consequences – ADAM GH Director

The Executive Director of ADAM GH, Azubila Emmanuel Salam, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to take proactive measures to find a lasting solution to the recurring flood disasters affecting the country, warning that failure to do so could have political consequences.

Speaking on Adekyee Mu Nsem on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra, Mr. Salam acknowledged the government’s swift release of funds to support victims of the recent floods in Accra and other parts of the country. However, he stressed that beyond emergency interventions, the government must engage technocrats, engineers, and policy experts to develop sustainable solutions to the perennial flooding problem.

According to him, the government should reconsider its policy direction by re-establishing and strengthening a dedicated Ministry of Sanitation to tackle the country’s sanitation challenges, which he described as one of the major causes of flooding.

Mr. Salam noted that although the country invested substantial financial resources in the sanitation sector under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, including the implementation of the Clean Ghana project, many of the expected outcomes were not achieved.

He therefore called on President John Dramani Mahama to demonstrate strong leadership by constituting a high-level committee to address the country’s recurring flooding and sanitation challenges.

Mr. Salam emphasised that adopting a comprehensive and long-term approach is essential to preventing the continued loss of lives and destruction of property caused by annual floods.
