Nana Addo disappointed Ghanaians in his state of nation address without speaking to the truth —— Hon. Sanja  Nanja

It is indeed peculiar and unfortunate that President Nana Addo, who campaigned vehemently against corruption in the 2016 presidential election, failed to address the issue in the State of the Nation Address. The prevalence of corruption has significantly impacted the socio-economic environment of the country, as evidenced by Ghana’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) of 47.8, which is slightly below the global average of 48.4. Transparency International’s CPI for 2023 revealed that Ghana received a score of 43 out of 100 and was ranked 70th out of 180 countries.

During an interview on Ahotor 92.3 FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show, Hon. Sanja Nanja, the Member of Parliament for Atebubu Amantin, expressed his concerns about Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts. The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) highlighted the country’s stagnation in combating corruption for the fourth consecutive year, with a score of 43 out of 100.

Hon. Nanja observed that the enthusiasm surrounding former President John Dramani Mahama suggests a desire for change. The chants of change began in the public gallery and were subsequently echoed by members of the minority, indicating a potential shift in political dynamics. Hon. Nanja emphasized the need for the president to provide accurate data on employment opportunities, inflation rates, and the country’s debt portfolio.

He criticized both the president and the vice president for their failure to address their anti-corruption campaign promises during the past seven years in office. Hon. Nanja expressed particular concern about the high youth unemployment rate, considering it a ticking time bomb that requires strategic policies for sustainable job creation.

In conclusion, Hon. Nanja highlighted the disappointment among Ghanaians due to the president’s lack of acknowledgment of economic hardships, inflation, and the high cost of living. He called for concrete solutions to address the challenges facing the country.
