NADAA Created And Supervised Vigilantism But We [NDC] Will Help The Government Deal With It – Suhuyini (MP)

The NDC Member of Parliament for Tamale North Counstituency, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini has blamed the president of the republic Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo for he what he refers to as a ‘monster’ of political thugism (vigilantism) the country has faced in recent times.

Following the recent violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by election and revelations on the Justice Emile Short commission, members of the general public and civil societies have called for the disbandment of political vigilante groups in the country. The president on this call asked the two main political parties, NPP and NDC, to have a roundtable meeting and see the way forward to solving the issue of vigilantism or he will be forced to do so with a legislation. The president’s stance, however, is hypocritical according to the Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini.

Speaking to Citizen Kofi Owusu on Ahotor FM’s morning show (Adekyee Mu Nsem) this morning, the member of parliament said the NDC as a political party will help the ruling NPP government to deal with the canker of political vigilantism which according to him, was started, created and supervised to this level by the president Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo. Acoording to Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, previous leaders of the NPP, Prof. Adu Boahen And former president John Kuffour, may not have necessarily believed totally in the state security under the rule of former president Jerry John Rawlings but they didn’t form vigilante groups to provide security for the NPP. But it is just recently under the leadership of then candidate and now president, Nana Addo, that we see and hear of vigilante groups like the Bamba Boys, Kandaha Boys, Invincible Forces, Bolga Bulldogs etc. This shows that the president has never been committed to the fight against vigilantism from the start and after his promises on several occasions to fight it, there is no result to show for it, according to the member of parliament.

“The level the president and NPP has taken this thing of political vigilantism is forcing individuals in other political parties to consider forming similar groups. However, the NDC has shown willingness, commitement and is ready to help the government in this fight”, Hon. Suhuyini said. We in the NDC first proposed this meeting and the president making that statement in public and saying that he will be forced to make a legislation was just a simple act of dancing to the gallery, he added.
