TEMA, Ghana, 26th September: Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called on the government to erect giant billboards bearing the image of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta at strategic locations across the country.
According to Mr Koomson, the billboards would serve as a reminder to Ghanaians of what he describes as the economic difficulties associated with Mr Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme on Saturday, September 26, 2026, Mr Koomson said such billboards are necessary to counter what he described as attempts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to shift blame for the country’s economic challenges onto the current administration.
“Looking at the behaviour of these NPP guys, I argued that it’s very necessary for the electorate to be reminded of the economic mess Ofori-Atta caused to the country,” he said.
He proposed that the billboards be mounted at prominent and strategic locations, including the airport, ports and border communities such as Elubo.
Mr Koomson said he would particularly welcome the erection of one of the billboards in his hometown, arguing that such displays would help the public appreciate the scale of the challenges he believes the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration inherited.
“There’s absolute need for Ofori-Atta’s picture to be magnified on billboards and erected at strategic locations in the country for the general public to understand the enormity of task being addressed by the NDC government,” he stated.
He further argued that without such reminders, what he described as intensified NPP propaganda could influence public perception and lead some Ghanaians to attribute the country’s economic difficulties to the current government.
“The people must know that this is the finance minister who runaway. They need to know this is the man who messed everything up for the country,” Mr Koomson said.
Mr Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2023, is currently outside Ghana. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says he remains subject to extradition proceedings and is facing 28 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences in one case.
A separate OSP case involving Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contains 78 charges against Mr Ofori-Atta and other accused persons.
The GFL Secretary-General maintained that the NPP should facilitate the former Finance Minister’s return to Ghana to face due process before criticising the current administration.
“Until the NPP brings Ofori-Atta home, they have no moral right to criticize the current government,” he stated.
