Medeama SC are the champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Tarkwa-based club sealed their second league title in style with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Heart of Lions at the packed Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium. This result gave them an unassailable lead with one matchday still to play, reportedly five points clear of nearest rivals Bibiani Gold Stars.

The title-clinching match turned into a goal feast that showcased Medeama’s attacking firepower all season long. Kelvin Obeng opened the scoring in the 18th minute and added another just before halftime in the 42nd minute. Derrick Fordjour then struck twice in the second half at the 72nd and 82nd minutes, while Prince Owusu completed the rout with a goal in the 90th minute.

Heart of Lions managed replies through Moses Ayidem in the 35th minute and Etse Dogli from the penalty spot in the 88th minute, but they could not stop the home side’s momentum. The win highlighted Medeama’s impressive scoring record, as they had netted around 50 goals throughout the campaign.

The atmosphere inside the stadium was electric, with fans and players flooding the pitch in the club’s iconic mauve and yellow colours amid unforgettable celebrations.

This triumph marks Medeama SC’s second Ghana Premier League title, coming after their maiden success in the 2022/23 season. In just the last five seasons, they have now lifted the trophy twice, confirming their place among Ghana’s top clubs in the modern era.

Founded in 2008 originally as a Division Three side, Medeama acquired the license of the defunct Kessben FC in 2010 and rebranded. They have since grown into a consistent top-flight force known for discipline and smart development, proudly representing the gold-mining town of Tarkwa in the Western Region.

Under head coach Ibrahim Tanko, a former Ghana international, Medeama produced a highly consistent and tactically disciplined campaign in 2025/26. They spent much of the season at the top of the table, combining a solid defensive structure with clinical attacking play.

Their points tally stood strong around the 59 to 62 mark from 31 to 33 matches, backed by a healthy goal difference and clear superiority over challengers including Bibiani Gold Stars, Hearts of Oak, and Aduana Stars. The team showed great resilience across tough fixtures, with key players like Obeng and Fordjour delivering crucial contributions throughout.

This championship brings several important benefits. Medeama have earned qualification for the CAF Champions League next season, where they will represent Ghana and look to build on previous continental outings.

The title also strengthens the club’s legacy in Tarkwa, boosting local pride and football development in the community. Congratulations have flowed in from across the league, including from rivals, reflecting widespread respect for a thoroughly deserved campaign.

Medeama SC’s 2025/26 triumph tells a compelling story of ambition, tactical intelligence, outstanding individual performances, and strong community backing. Rising from lower-division roots to claim multiple titles in recent years, the club perfectly embodies the dream that hard work and smart planning can achieve in Ghanaian football.
