Marc Cucurella has officially joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in a major transfer that sees the Spanish left-back return to his home country and move to one of the biggest clubs in world football.

The 27-year-old defender, born in Alella near Barcelona on July 22, 1998, has signed a six-year contract with the Spanish giants running until 2032, following a negotiated package worth up to €60 million, comprising an initial fixed fee of around €55 million plus €5 million in performance-related add-ons.

This move comes just days after intense speculation, with Real Madrid acting swiftly to secure his services ahead of the post-World Cup campaign, where Cucurella is currently representing Spain in the United States.

The defender, who impressed during his time at Stamford Bridge with his versatility, energy, and attacking contributions from the flank, has signed a long-term contract with the Spanish giants.

The transfer represents a significant homecoming of sorts for Cucurella, who began his career in La Masia at Barcelona before making his way through various clubs and establishing himself as a Premier League stalwart.

After a productive loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion, he joined Chelsea in 2022 for a substantial fee and went on to make over 115 appearances for the Blues, contributing six goals while showcasing his trademark energy, overlapping runs, and defensive solidity.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, he played a key role in Chelsea’s triumphs in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, earning praise for his adaptability across the left flank—whether as a traditional full-back, wing-back in a more attacking setup, or even occasionally pushed higher up the pitch.

His performances under various managers highlighted his relentless pressing, tactical intelligence, and ability to deliver dangerous crosses, qualities that ultimately caught the eye of Real Madrid’s recruitment team as they sought to bolster their defensive options.

This move marks a new chapter for Cucurella after several successful seasons in the Premier League, where he established himself as a reliable performer under different managers. Real Madrid, known for strengthening their squad with high-quality, tactically flexible players, view him as an ideal fit to compete for and rotate in the left-back position alongside existing options.
