Residents and traders in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality are awaiting the commissioning of a newly constructed primary healthcare facility located within the municipal market.
The facility, initiated under the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Atter Matey, is expected to bring essential healthcare services closer to thousands of traders and residents who have faced challenges accessing medical care due to distance and cost.
For years, many people in the market community have had to travel considerable distances to seek healthcare, with some reportedly delaying treatment because of the inconvenience and financial burden involved.
The newly constructed facility is expected to provide basic healthcare services, including consultation, emergency care, maternal healthcare and child immunisation.
The facility has reportedly been completed and equipped, but its commissioning has been delayed by administrative and bureaucratic processes.
Speaking ahead of the expected opening, Hon. John Atter Matey said the project was more than just the construction of a physical structure, describing it as a commitment to improving healthcare access in the municipality.
“This centre is not just a building. It is a commitment to our community. It is a promise that no one will be left behind when it comes to healthcare,” he said.
The initiative has been welcomed by local leaders and market women, who believe the facility will help save lives, reduce travel time and ease the financial burden associated with accessing healthcare.
Once operational, the clinic is expected to serve as an important healthcare facility for traders and residents in the market community and support efforts to bring essential medical services closer to the people.
