Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson, has called on organised labour to undertake extensive consultations and carefully study the proposals for constitutional review before taking a collective position on the reforms.
Speaking on Yepe Ahunu on Ahotor FM on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Mr Koomson said organised labour must examine the proposed constitutional amendments article by article to fully understand their implications for workers and the wider public.
He said labour leaders should not rush to issue public statements or organise press conferences without first engaging their members and reaching a common position on the proposed changes.
“We need to sit down and look at the articles, article by article, and make sure that we understand what they want to bring out,” he said.
Mr Koomson stressed that the leadership of organised labour has a responsibility to ensure that members are adequately informed about the proposals before any final position is adopted.
He said proper consultation among the various labour groups would enable organised labour to develop a common position that reflects the interests and concerns of workers.
According to him, issuing public statements without sufficient consultation could have limited impact, particularly if government decides to proceed with the proposed reforms despite concerns raised by organised labour.
The Ghana Federation of Labour Secretary-General therefore urged organised labour to take its time to study the proposals, educate its members and engage government where necessary rather than relying solely on public statements.
