‘Kunfu Chairman’ fingered as Akwatia NDC sits on time bomb

Contriving information circulating within the corridors in the Akwatia constituency of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has it that the rank and file of the party are at each other’s throats over the ongoing branch elections by the party.

Members and functionaries in and around the constituency, have taken a swipe at the incumbent chairman Mr. Awal Moro popularly called ‘BB’ who according to reports is unleashing alleged brutalities and issuing threats to deal ruthlessly with his contending opponents if they there messed up with him, with the tacit supports of some unknown military escorts and police personnel in the Denkyembuor District of the Eastern Region.

Narrating the situation to ahotoronline.com, an aspiring communication officer in the party at the Akwatia constituency, Abigail Darkwa noted the issue is very dire and has its root traced to the 2015 parliamentary primaries of the party.

She alluded to the fact that, the feud and rancor prior to the elections destabilized the unity and supports base of the party which invariably culminated into the defeat by the party during the 2016 general elections.

She bemoaned any attempt by the regional executives to salvage the situation and call the chairman to order has fallen to deaf ears.

Concurring to the situational accounts, the aspiring communication officer of the constituency accused Mr. Awal Moro for thwarting and stoking fire in an attempt to woo supporters for his faction which have resulted in divisions amongst the grassroots and supporters of the party.

The constituent’s laments the chairman has taken size in the ongoing branch elections and sponsoring his preferred choices to occupy sensitive positions in order to gain dominance for his own parochial need at the detriment and peril of the success by the party in the Akwatia constituency.

When the news crew contacted his close challenger, who is vying for the chairmanship slot, Mr. Henry Boakye (okoyo) to illicit his exposition about the raging controversy,

He revealed that it’s imperative for the party to work assiduously to overcome the tension and anxiety in the constituency. But was quick to add the attitudes of some aspiring candidates are muddling the unity pact of the party in the constituency.

He avowed the incumbent chairman should tread cautiously and allow due process and respect for rule of law to thrive.

Some of the executives who interacted with the news team via phone appealed for calm and cool heads to reason.

Whiles others vowed to resist any move by Mr. Moro to disenfranchise them from taken part in the ongoing branch elections.

They expressed worries that, the friction between the current chairman and contesting parties in the constituency smacks of frustration and asked for restraint among the aggrieved parties, Since any implosion in the party will give lead to the NPP to wailed electoral supremacy over the NDC ahead of 2020.

Meanwhile, bigwigs in the party are calling on the National, Regional and constituency executives to revert to the reconciliatory roadmap which ushered them to win in 2012. Rather than resorts to extraneous and divisive tendencies which retarded the party’s fortunes during the elections in 2016.

Similarly, party sympathizers as well as supporters opined the need to revive the grassroots and the hardworking forces in the constituency in order to galvanized supports for the party as they buckles up for 2020 general elections.

The NDC is currently on a mission to snatch the Akwatia parliamentary seat from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the eastern region which the party lost through internal wrangling, apathy and acrimony by disgruntled grassroots during the last elections.

Any attempt established to reach the embattled chairman proved futile.

Ahotoronline.com will traced his whereabouts and published his side of the story in due time.
