Just release a timetable we are aware ‘dumsor’ is back – Mahama tells Gov’t

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has urged the government to openly acknowledge the prevalence of ‘dumsor’ (power outages) and issue a clearly defined load-shedding timetable.

Recent power disruptions across the country have prompted Mahama to advocate for transparency in addressing the issue.

Addressing a gathering in Sissala West during his “Building the Ghana We Want” Tour in the Upper West region, Mr. Mahama stressed the importance of providing Ghanaians with a transparent schedule amidst ongoing load shedding.

Reflecting on his tenure as president, Mahama underscored his commitment to keeping the public informed about challenges and the steps taken to mitigate them.

However, he expressed concerns over the current administration’s lack of transparency in addressing the power crisis.

During my presidency, I made it a point to inform the people of Ghana about our challenges and the measures we were taking to tackle them. I believe honesty was crucial because I didn’t want to deceive my people. Today, every night you go to bed and the lights go out, indicating load shedding. There are issues with power generation, some generation assets are offline, and there are challenges with paying for gas and fuel,” Mahama remarked.

He emphasized the need for a structured timetable to inform citizens about scheduled power cuts, which is commonly known as ‘dumsor’ in Ghana.

While they may refrain from calling it ‘dumsor,’ we understand the situation. They reduce the power supply without a formal timetable. Ghanaians deserve clarity on when to expect outages,” he added.
