Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has publicly accused a Ghanaian television station, North East TV, of illegally broadcasting her newly released movie, The Memory of You Part 2, less than 24 hours after it premiered on her official YouTube channel.
In a video shared on X, the actress expressed disappointment and frustration, stating that the station aired the concluding part of her film without her knowledge, permission, or any licensing agreement.
“I didn’t give you permission. I don’t know you,” Iyabo Ojo said, questioning why a television station would take content from her official YouTube channel and broadcast it for free while generating revenue from it.
The actress stressed that filmmaking requires huge financial investment, including paying actors and crew members, securing filming locations, providing costumes, makeup, accommodation, transportation, and other production expenses. According to her, unauthorized broadcasts not only violate copyright laws but also reduce the number of viewers on YouTube, where creators earn revenue to recover production costs.
Iyabo Ojo warned North East TV and other broadcasters against airing any of her productions without proper authorization, insisting that filmmakers deserve to be fairly compensated for their creative work.
She has also appealed to Ghana’s National Film Authority (NFA), the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, and the President of Ghana to investigate the alleged copyright infringement and take appropriate action against television stations found guilty of illegally broadcasting copyrighted content..
