IPGG Commends Akufo-Addo’s Decision to Halt Electricity Export Amid Dumsor.

The Independent Power Generators Ghana (IPGG) has praised President Akufo-Addo for his decision to suspend the export of electricity amid the dumsor crisis.

IPGG expressed its satisfaction with President Akufo-Addo’s directive to the Volta River Authority to halt electricity exports to neighboring nations like Togo and Burkina Faso. The group acknowledged that while this measure might not completely resolve the ongoing energy challenges, it will undoubtedly provide some relief and stability to the domestic market.

Samuel Atta Akyea, Chairman of the Energy Committee of Parliament, disclosed that President Akufo-Addo instructed the Volta River Authority (VRA) to scale back electricity exports due to the intermittent power outages, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’.

In a statement released by Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, CEO of IPGG, the group commended President Akufo-Addo for prioritizing the domestic market during this critical period. The statement emphasized that while the suspension of electricity exports may not entirely solve the dumsor crisis, it represents a significant step toward stabilizing the domestic energy supply.

Overall, IPGG’s commendation reflects the recognition of President Akufo-Addo’s efforts to address the energy challenges facing Ghana and his commitment to ensuring the stability of the domestic market amid the dumsor crisis.
