Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has explained that his identity in the creative industry extends beyond making music, describing himself as an entertainer with several dimensions to his craft.
The musician made the comments while speaking to students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium.
According to Shatta Wale, music is only one aspect of what he does as a creative personality.
“I’m not just a musician; I’m an entertainer. Being a musician is just one of the things I do.”
His comments highlight his broader involvement in entertainment, where his career has included music, live performances, public appearances, social media engagement and other forms of audience interaction.
Shatta Wale has built a reputation for maintaining a strong connection with his audience, while using different platforms to express himself and promote his work.
The UPSA engagement also gave the dancehall artiste an opportunity to share experiences from his career and interact with young people pursuing professional and creative paths.
His appearance at the university comes shortly after he encouraged students to focus on developing their minds and ideas, telling them: “Don’t copy my lifestyle. Copy my thinking.”
For Shatta Wale, the message to the students was clear: succeeding in the entertainment industry can involve more than mastering one craft—it can also require the ability to create experiences, connect with audiences and continuously reinvent oneself.
