Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has adopted an unconventional approach to motivating FC AshantiGold 04 players ahead of their Ghana Premier League showdown against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday, promising to prepare special goat soup for the team if they secure victory.
In a video circulating on social media, sighted by AhotorSports, the Municipal Chief Executive is seen using the promise of a special local delicacy as an incentive to encourage the players to give their best when they face the Porcupine Warriors.
The gesture has introduced a lighter, culturally familiar dimension to the build-up to one of the most anticipated fixtures involving the two clubs, with the promise of goat soup serving as a symbolic reward for a successful performance.
The Ashanti Derby
The fixture is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi, with FC AshantiGold 04 hosting Asante Kotoko in Matchday Eight of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. The encounter marks the return of the Ashanti Derby to Obuasi following AshantiGold’s promotion to the top flight.
The match carries significance for both clubs, with regional pride and valuable league points at stake. AshantiGold will have the opportunity to use home support to their advantage, while Kotoko will be determined to compete strongly in a fixture that attracts considerable attention from Ghanaian football followers.
A Different Kind of Motivation
Football motivation often comes in the form of financial bonuses, cash incentives, public recognition and promises of improved welfare. However, Hon. Appiah Kannin’s approach highlights how food, hospitality and local traditions can also be used to inspire players.
By offering to prepare special goat soup if AshantiGold defeat Asante Kotoko, the MCE has sought to add a personal touch to the team’s preparations and encourage the players to approach Sunday’s encounter with determination.
The promise is also likely to generate conversations among supporters, given the popularity of goat soup in Ghanaian food culture and the intense rivalry associated with the fixture.
The Challenge Ahead
Despite the unusual incentive, AshantiGold’s task remains on the pitch. A match against Asante Kotoko requires concentration, tactical discipline, effective finishing and the ability to handle pressure throughout the contest.
The players will need to translate any encouragement received off the field into a coordinated performance against their opponents. Their ability to manage key moments, defend collectively and take advantage of scoring opportunities could prove decisive.
For the technical team, the immediate priority will be ensuring that the players remain focused on their tactical responsibilities rather than allowing the excitement surrounding the promise to distract from the challenge ahead.
More Than Just Goat Soup
Beyond the humour surrounding the offer, the MCE’s gesture draws attention to the role local authorities and community figures can play in supporting football clubs.
Public encouragement can help strengthen the connection between a team and its community, particularly when supporters and local leaders demonstrate a shared interest in the club’s success.
The promise also gives supporters an additional talking point as they look forward to the encounter. Whether the incentive becomes a memorable dressing-room story or a celebration after the final whistle will depend on AshantiGold’s performance on the day.
Will FC AshantiGold 04 Deliver?
With the special goat soup reportedly promised as a reward for victory, attention now turns to whether the players can rise to the occasion against Asante Kotoko.
For Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, the offer represents a distinctive show of encouragement. For the players, however, the ultimate response must come through their performance and the final result.
