Government directives not working – Farudeen Yakubu

“The President, Nana Akufo Addo has ordered all Ghanaians to wear a mandatory face mask but it’s not in force. I am asking again, why is it not in force or it’s just a sham.”

The Greater Accra Communications Director of the Peoples National Convention, Farudeen Yakubu says the President’s directives on the Covid-19 protocols are not being observed.

Speaking on Monday night on Ahotor FM’s Asem Yi Dika, he said, walking through the streets of Accra since the directives, he has seen a lot of people going about their normal businesses without the necessary protocols being observed.

“The President, Nana Akufo Addo has ordered all Ghanaians to wear a mandatory face mask but it’s not in force,” he said. “I am asking again, why is it not in force or it’s just a sham?”

“Who is to see to it’s enforcement and how can we contain the spread if this is what we are doing as citizens?” he asked.

He further opined that, the parliamentary primaries conducted by the ruling New Patriotic Party over the weekend was a case study for all to see as some people didn’t observe the protocols.

“Many delegates did not wear the face mask during the 21st June Parliamentary elections of the NPP and we saw nothing wrong with it, so how can we enforce it on the citizens?” he asked

According to him, government has failed in its management of the pandemic and this has exposed them massively. Since the pandemic broke out, he said government has lied to Ghanaians that the situation is under control yet the number keeps on increasing everyday to our amusement.

If care is not taken, the situation will get out of hand and become uncontrollable in the country the PNC communicator indicated.

When the host of the program Emmanuel Martey aka Alaska asked if there is something government can do to help contain the spread, Mr Yakubu said the reopening of schools can even escalate the situation and that it’s a wrong move that may come back to haunt us very soon.
