The Executive Secretary of ADAM GH, Emmanuel Azubila Salam, has described the Minority’s position and attacks on the operations and financial transactions of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) as unfortunate and bizarre.
According to him, the establishment of GoldBod is a government policy and should not be viewed as the personal property of its Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
He also dismissed the threats and what he described as unsubstantiated allegations made by the Minority Leader in Parliament against the GoldBod CEO, describing them as unfounded and mere political rhetoric.
Speaking on the “Adekye Mu Nsem” morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra, Mr. Azubila Salam urged the public to focus on the positive gains of GoldBod and its contribution to Ghana’s gold-trading sector.
He argued that the management of gold transactions through GoldBod is helping the country address some of its financial obligations, including debts inherited from the previous NPP administration, through proceeds generated from gold transactions.
Mr. Azubila Salam further said that, from a broader economic perspective, GoldBod has played a strategic role in supporting the stability of the Ghanaian cedi.
He noted that the institution’s operations could help strengthen the cedi against major international currencies by improving Ghana’s foreign-exchange position and maximizing the value derived from the country’s gold resources.
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) was established in 2025 by the Government of Ghana as a central state institution with responsibility for the buying, selling, weighing, grading, assaying, valuing, and exporting of gold and other precious minerals.
The institution is also intended to contribute to the restructuring of Ghana’s resource governance, strengthen foreign-exchange reserves, and support the stability of the national currency through the centralized aggregation of gold.
Mr. Azubila Salam therefore described it as politically misguided for the Minority Leader to portray GoldBod as the personal property of Sammy Gyamfi.
He emphasized that GoldBod is a state institution established under law to serve the national interest and provide an important economic backbone for Ghana.
He called on political leaders and stakeholders to look beyond partisan considerations and assess GoldBod based on its broader economic objectives and potential benefits to the country.
