GJA president calls for responsible journalism at 30th Media Awards launch

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has called on journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy, fairness and ethical standards in their reportage.

Speaking at the official launch of the 30th GJA Media Awards 2026 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Mr. Dwumfour said journalists must remain committed to responsible and credible journalism, particularly in an era where social media has increased the speed at which information is produced and shared.

He cautioned journalists against becoming what he described as “stomach journalists,” stressing that public trust can only be maintained through factual, fair and unbiased reporting.

Mr. Dwumfour said the GJA Media Awards continue to motivate journalists to improve their work and make meaningful contributions to national development.

He also condemned reported cases of violence against journalists, including allegations that Bullet TV journalist Philip and Kweku Dennis, popularly known as Sika Official, were assaulted by personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces during the La Pleasure Beach demolition exercise.

According to him, journalists perform an important public service and must be allowed to carry out their professional duties without intimidation or violence.
