Ghosts cannot have fingerprints- Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the significance of requiring new public sector employees and staff to undergo a biometric identification process.

According to him, this measure would eliminate ghost names from the payroll and ensure that all those who receive salaries have earned them.

He added that, ghosts cannot have fingerprints so once you require fingerprint, the ghosts will run away because they cannot produce the fingerprints. That is the problem it creates for the ghosts

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) has announced that beginning February 2024, all public sector workers will need their Ghana Card numbers to access their salaries. According to the CAGD, the new directive forms part of measures to rid the government’s payroll of ghost names.

Speaking at a ceremony in Accra, to launch the National Mechanized Payroll Database organized Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) Dr. Bawumia explained that this procedure will connect their National Identification Cards to the payroll, activating their names on the payroll system and streamlining the payment of salaries.

Dr. Bawumia also stated that, the linkage between the NIA database and the government payroll will significantly contribute to eliminating the incidence of ghost names on the government of Ghana’s mechanised payroll system, which has persisted for some time
