TEMA, Ghana, 15th October: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being desperate to return to power, warning that the party could resort to propaganda to turn public opinion against the government.
According to him, Ghanaians have become more politically aware and are less likely to fall for propaganda than they were decades ago.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem programme on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Mr Koomson said the political landscape had changed significantly, making it more difficult for political parties to manipulate public opinion through misleading narratives.
“The way the NPP are behaving shows they are desperate for power, and they will do whatever they can do to cause destruction or pollute the minds of the people. But Ghanaians are now not like years back, where they would have fallen for propaganda,” he said.
He cautioned that political parties must prioritise national development over political ambition, arguing that the electorate would be unwilling to support political actors whose actions do not contribute to the country’s progress.
“Now in 2026, the population will not follow you if you do a politics that will not help national development,” he added.
Calls on NDC to prosecute alleged offenders
Mr Koomson also urged the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to use the mandate entrusted to it by Ghanaians to pursue accountability and ensure that persons found to have broken the law under the previous administration are brought to justice.
He cautioned the government against being overly concerned about possible public backlash over the arrest and prosecution of former government officials or other individuals affiliated with the NPP.
According to him, Ghanaians voted for the NDC with the expectation that it would deliver results, promote economic progress and hold people accountable for wrongdoing.
He maintained that the government’s responsibility is to ensure that anyone found to have violated the laws of the country faced the appropriate legal consequences, regardless of political affiliation.
Mr Koomson stressed that the NDC should not be intimidated by political considerations but should focus on fulfilling the promises and responsibilities associated with the mandate it received from the electorate.
He further argued that economic development, improved living conditions and tangible results were what mattered most to Ghanaians, adding that he believed the current NDC administration is delivering on those expectations.
He therefore called on the government to remain resolute in its pursuit of accountability and national development, insisting that individuals who have broken the law must face justice through due legal processes.
