President John Dramani Mahama says Ghana will take the Accra Reset agenda into the heart of Africa’s collective policy framework when the country assumes the Chairmanship of the African Union in 2027.
He said Ghana would use its upcoming role to advance the agenda in collaboration with the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 plus China.
President Mahama made the announcement in New York on Monday, September 21, 2026, during a high-level side event on the Accra Reset: Global Reset Dialogue held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
“As Ghana prepares to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union in 2027, we will carry this Reset agenda into the heart of Africa’s collective policy framework, working hand in hand with the Non-Aligned Movement and the G77 plus China,” he said.
The President said the Accra Reset is designed to address what he described as structural weaknesses in the global system, particularly those affecting the Global South’s ability to exercise control over its development priorities.
He said the initiative was founded on the principle that political authority must be matched by productive capability and financial resilience.
President Mahama also announced the official launch of the report “A Sovereign Future for Health,”which contains ten recommendations developed by the High-Level Panel on Reform of the Global Health Architecture and Governance.
He said the panel has completed its assignment and that attention must now shift from designing the framework to implementing its recommendations.
President Mahama said Ghana and the Presidential Council would, in the coming months, engage governments, global health bodies, development finance institutions, philanthropies and private-sector actors to translate the recommendations into country-level compacts.
He also invited strategic partners from Brazil, India, Indonesia, the Gulf and across Africa to collaborate in building networks linking research, regulation, local manufacturing and reliable distribution.
The President said the initiative is not intended to promote isolationism, but rather “pragmatic interdependence” based on equal partnerships.
He said stronger and more self-reliant countries in the Global South would contribute to greater global health security.
The President concluded by calling for a new global bargain based on ownership backed by control, cooperation defined by human dignity, and commitments that translate into real protection for people across the world.
