The Greater Accra Regional Management of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has paid a courtesy call on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo, to strengthen collaboration in the fight against substandard goods and promote consumer protection across the region.
The delegation, led by the Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Authority, Mr. Clement Kubati, used the meeting to officially introduce the newly established regional structure of the GSA under the leadership of the Director-General, Prof. George Agyei. The engagement also focused on exploring ways to enhance cooperation between the Authority and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council in addressing the growing challenge of substandard products in markets and commercial centres.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Kubati underscored the importance of public education in tackling the proliferation of inferior and unregulated products. He called for intensified sensitisation programmes targeting traders, particularly women in the markets, to help raise awareness about the dangers associated with substandard goods and the need to comply with established standards.
The Regional Manager also congratulated Hon. Ocloo on her recognition as the Best Greater Accra Regional Minister, describing the award as a reflection of her dedication and commitment to the development of the region.

Mr. Kubati further appealed for the Minister’s support in securing office accommodation for the Authority at the district and municipal levels to enhance its operational efficiency, enforcement capacity, and accessibility to the public.
Responding to the concerns raised, Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo commended the Ghana Standards Authority for its ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure compliance with national standards. She particularly praised the Authority’s recent enforcement activities, including inspections within the mattress manufacturing sector.
The Minister stressed the need for sustained enforcement and public education, noting that the fight against substandard goods is directly linked to public safety and economic development. She pointed to recent incidents of building collapses and suggested that the use of inferior construction materials could be a contributing factor, reinforcing the need for stricter quality control measures.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation between the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the Ghana Standards Authority in promoting quality standards, safeguarding consumers, and enhancing regulatory compliance throughout the region.
