Ghana’s creative arts industry has been thrown into mourning following the passing of celebrated visual artist and poet Sharon Dede Padi, popularly known as Padiki.
The acclaimed artist reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday, July 7, at the age of 50. While the cause of her death has not yet been made public, news of her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from fellow artists, creatives, fans and admirers who have praised her immense contribution to Ghana’s arts and culture.
Padiki was widely admired for her unique artistic style and her unwavering commitment to promoting Ghanaian culture through visual storytelling. Her works earned both local and international recognition, making her one of the country’s most respected contemporary artists.
In 2025, she made history by becoming the first official holder of the Guinness World Record for the Largest Leaf Print Painting. The remarkable artwork, measuring 54.33 square metres, was created in Accra using impressions from natural leaves.
The masterpiece celebrated Ghana’s rich environmental heritage, culture and creativity, earning global recognition and inspiring many young artists across the country.
