The Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that AJ Auxerre right-back Marvin Senaya has committed to representing the Black Stars at the international level after he was named for the first time in Otto Addo’s squad for the upcoming Pre-World Cup friendlies against Germany and Australia next week.

Speaking amid recent speculation, Twum emphasized that extensive discussions with the 25-year-old defender over an extended period led to his full agreement to play for Ghana, with the GFA only proceeding to include players in national squads after securing such consent.
Senaya, born in France and possessing eligibility through his Togolese heritage via his father (former Togo international Yao Mawuko Senaya) as well as Ghanaian roots, found himself at the center of a dual-nation pursuit this March international window.
Togo had named him in their preliminary squad for upcoming friendlies against Guinea and Niger, applying early pressure on his decision. Despite this, Ghana coach Otto Addo included him in the 26-man Black Stars squad announced for pre-2026 FIFA World Cup friendlies against Austria on March 27 and Germany on March 30.
By opting for Ghana, Senaya delivers a significant snub to Togo’s advances and bolsters the Black Stars’ defensive depth at right-back heading into these crucial preparatory matches.
His form at Ligue 1 side Auxerre—where he has featured prominently this season—makes him a timely addition as Ghana intensifies preparations for the ongoing World Cup qualifying campaign. This successful recruitment of a promising dual national underscores the GFA’s strategic efforts to attract and secure talented players for the senior team.
