Fulfill your promise and pay allowances owed nursing trainees – Mahama jabs Akufo-Addo

The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress NDC John Mahama is urging the government to promptly settle all outstanding arrears owed to Nursing trainees nationwide. According to him, such delay leads to unnecessary hardship for the students.

The previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government scrapped the allowance in 2014, under which nursing trainees got at least GH¢450.00 every quarter. But, during the 2016 electioneering period, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promised to restore the allowance for the trainees to go through smooth training to serve the nation.

Hundreds of nursing trainees from the Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College have hailed the President of Akufo-Addo, for restoring their trainee allowances which were cancelled by the erstwhile Mahama-led NDC government.

Wielding placards with inscriptions such as “We don’t need JM back to cancel our allawa”, “we are happy for the allawa”, “Nana nie, allawa nie”, and “Our parents thank you for allawa”, the nurses mobbed President Akufo-Addo, prior to his meeting with the Bono Region House of Chiefs on Monday, 7th October 2019.

During a visit to Krobo nursing training school in the Bono region as part of his ‘Building the Ghana Tour’, Mr. Mahama stressed the importance of the government fulfilling his promise to pay allowances for nursing trainees.
