Fight against corruption: John Mahama showed commitment than Akufo Addo – South Dayi MP.

The Member of Parliament for the South Dayi constituency in the Volta region, Honorable Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor, has expressed his views on the issue of corruption in Ghana. Speaking at the launch of a civil society organization called Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement-Ghana (PTAAM-GH) at UPSA, he made several key points:

  1. Comparison of Administrations: Hon. Dafeamekpor compared the commitment to fighting corruption between the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by John Dramani Mahama and the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration led by Nana Akufo Addo. He suggested that the Mahama administration was more committed to tackling corruption than the current government.
  2. Accountability under Mahama: He noted that under President Mahama, there was a willingness to hold accountable those within his administration who were found to have engaged in corrupt practices. He claimed that Mahama didn’t hesitate to punish his appointees who were found guilty under the law.
  3. Criticism of Akufo Addo’s Administration: In contrast, he criticized the Akufo Addo administration for its perceived failure to prosecute its own members accused of wrongdoing. He suggested that this perceived inaction had led to Akufo Addo being labeled as the “clearing agent” by Ghanaians, implying that he was not holding his party members accountable for their actions.
  4. Call for Change: Hon. Dafeamekpor called for a change in leadership, advocating for the return of John Mahama to the presidency. He urged Ghanaians to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections, believing that Mahama’s leadership would bring about better governance and a stronger commitment to fighting corruption.
  5. Support for the CSO: He encouraged the newly launched civil society organization, PTAAM-GH, to carry out its work diligently for the betterment of Ghana. He emphasized the importance of their independence from political influence and their commitment to fighting corruption regardless of which party is in power.
  6. Promise of Support: Hon. Dafeamekpor assured the CSO that parliament and other stakeholders would be ready to support their efforts to achieve positive goals for the country. He pledged assistance whenever they sought it, expressing confidence that with determination, the organization could make a significant impact in addressing corruption in Ghana.

Overall, Hon. Dafeamekpor’s speech highlighted the importance of combating corruption in Ghana and the role of both political leadership and civil society organizations in achieving this goal.
