The Food and Drugs Authority says, it will ensure that, all the contaminated COA-FS products would be taken off the market shelves in a move to ensure the safety of consumers.
It said, its market surveillance unit would ensure that, all protocols are adopted to achieve the said purpose.
Head of Drugs Marketing and Surveillance Unit of the Authority, Mr Prah Eshun in an interview during the destruction of 640 boxes of the 550 mm dosage and 52 boxes of the 250 mm dosage of the product at the Nkamfo landfill site at cape Coast
The destruction follows Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) demand for the manufacturers of popular food supplement, COA FS, COA Herbal Centre to withdraw the product from the market over claims of unsafe consumption.
Raising concerns over how the regulatory body relates to local entrepreneurs or companies who produce ground-breaking products.
The FDA ordered the recall of two batches of COA FS Food Supplement, manufactured by the Centre of Awareness (COA) Herbal Centre, from the Ghanaian market, over contamination.
It claimed that a laboratory analysis on samples picked by the Authority from the market and the manufacturing facility at Wusorkrom near Cape Coast, showed excessive microbial, mould and yeast contamination.
