Broadcaster and private investigator, Nana Yaw Abbrompah has called on the Ashanti Regional Police Command to expedite investigations into allegations of unlawful medical practice and abortions involving New Hill Medical Center, a health facility allegedly linked to Mr. Daniel Ampong, popularly known as the “Omankrado of Ajumako Kromaim.”
Speaking on Ahotor 92.3FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show with Citizen Kofi Owusu, Nana Yaw Abbrompah said the case is being handled by the Crime Officer at the Ashanti Regional Police Command, who has informed him that the matter is currently before the Attorney-General. He is therefore calling for the relevant authorities to establish the facts of the case and allow the law to take its course.
Mr. Daniel Ampong has been accused of allegedly operating a health facility and performing multiple abortions at the facility in the Central Region. According to the allegations, he was arrested by the Kenyasi Police Station, after which the case was reportedly transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command Headquarters for further investigation.
However, concerns have been raised over the lack of a significant update on the case nearly three months after its reported transfer. Questions have also been raised about whether New Hill Medical Center is duly registered and licensed, the qualifications of medical professionals allegedly attached to the facility, and whether any deaths or serious medical complications have been reported in connection with its operations.
Nana Yaw Abbrompah said preliminary information gathered during his inquiries suggests that the facility has become associated with the alleged abortion activities to the extent that some residents now refer to the location as “Abortion Junction.”
The allegations, if established, could raise serious legal and regulatory concerns under Ghana’s health and criminal laws. Nana Yaw Abbrompah has therefore called on the Ashanti Regional Police Command to expedite its investigations.
He has also urged the Medical and Dental Council, the Ghana Health Service and the Food and Drugs Authority to investigate the facility and take appropriate action if any breaches are established.
However, the allegations against Mr. Daniel Ampong remain unproven, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Nana Yaw Abbrompah also stressed that anyone who knowingly makes false accusations against Mr. Ampong should be held accountable under the law.
He called for a fair, transparent and thorough investigation to establish the truth and ensure that the laws of the country are allowed to take their course.
