Election security is very important for peaceful election —- Richard Kumadoe

It’s an indictment and dangerous on the part of the Chairperson of Electoral Commission Madam Jean Mensah to say that, there are saboteurs who are planning to create violence, leading to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections where and how? While the police and the national security outfit are there to address this early security signals threats timely.

Richard Kumadoe , Founder and Independent Elections Security and Compliance Watcher, said this on Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.

He is of the view that we are witnessing predetermined well orchestrated strategies to create violence in elections and there is a need for the EC chair to make unsubstantiated security statement without any facts backing his statement, is very unfortunate.

He further stated that, it will be appropriate for all stake holders in national election to be clear with the causes and the intended purposes of the people who are behind the intended election violence the EC chair purported.

Richard Kumadoe, is of the view that election security is key, and election management proceedings are also key to every successful electioneering processes, and there is a need for the EC as the head and part of the Election Task Force, should be apt to speak to truth and facts and to mislead the public.

He went further to say that non-punishable of election offences will rationalise bad behaviour, and further promote antisocial tendencies around the inner perimeters of an election area and it will be justify and appropriate for the EC to put structures in place to help the security bodies to carry out their duties to punish the perpetrators in case anything untoward happen .

In another development the Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare says the security agencies will ensure that the 2024 elections are peaceful and incident-free. According to the IGP, just as elections in the country have been peaceful since he assumed office, the 2024 polls will be no different.

“We want to assure my sister (EC Chairperson) that we will continue to work with my colleagues here to ensure that just as elections in the country since I took over have been peaceful, the 2024 polls will be the same.”

On his part, the Chief of Defense Staff Vice Admiral Seth Amoama said the Ghana Armed Forces will be on hand to provide background support to the Police and other security agencies that will provide security for the 2024 elections.
