E/R: Regional Offices suffering from lack of infrastructure- A-G

The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General Gloria Akufo has stated that, regional offices across the country are suffering from lack of infrastructure inadequate staff and budgetary constraint.

The Minister of Justice was speaking during her visit to the Eastern regional branch of the department when she indicated that, the Ministry is faced with quite a lot of challenges.

She further said that the issues have been communicated to the President and she is waiting for the response which will resolve the complaints.

However, the Eastern Regional State Attorney Emily Addo Okyereh while talking said that, the department needs photocopier machines, inadequate stationary and grants to ran the office.

She appealed to the addressed the Attorney General to allow ,more staffs to come and help  in the region to establish justice more appropriately.

Ms Akufo said, “I have already alerted the President that our regional offices especially what we have seen up country are near collapse, we cannot afford this to happen.There cannot be democracy if we don’t have strong justice system and we are key role players in that sector”.

She further highlighted earlier comments when she visited the Northern regional branch of the department that, the department needs 50 State Attorneys and also requested that, the National Service Secretariat should post more lawyers to the ministry to increase its strength.

She said,“I am aware also of the serious challenges of office and residential accommodation, I know not only space but most are in deplorable state ,lack office  equipments ,even the administrative wing is also a problem”.
