Police in the Eastern Region have arrested three persons for allegedly stealing items from a container truck involved in an accident at Kwahu Fodoa in the Kwahu West Municipality.
The truck, fully loaded with sardines and travelling from Accra in the Greater Accra Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, was carrying two occupants when the incident occurred. According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle hit a deep pothole upon reaching Fodoa, causing it to overturn and fall on its side in the middle of the highway. The truck was identified as a cargo container vehicle with registration number AA 119 CY.
As some Good Samaritans rushed to assist in clearing the overturned vehicle to ease traffic flow, three individuals allegedly took advantage of the situation and began stealing sardines from the container. They were subsequently apprehended and are currently assisting police with investigations.
Meanwhile, the driver and his mate sustained injuries during the accident and have been admitted to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for treatment.
