Dr Bawumia’s National Service comments were not well thought through – Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency in the Volta region, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the National Service part of the submission by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP is not well thought through.

According to him, the National Service law indicates that, the first six months should even be compulsory and he thinks we should bow to that.

He indicated that, if you have a situation as we have now where unemployment rate is high, National Service serves as an employment absorption opportunity.

The Vice President who is now the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia through his vision speech earlier said, his government will scrap national service should he win the elections.

Speaking on this development, the North Tongu legislature said he is getting the sense that, Dr Bawumia wants to save national resources and doesn’t want to pay National Service personnel.

But he insisted that, this is the government that has a reputation of wasting money even where they carry savings, they will spend it on themselves.
