Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has added his voice to growing public calls for former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to return to Ghana and account for his stewardship over the past eight years.
According to Kpebu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must take responsibility by prevailing upon Ofori-Atta to return voluntarily, rather than waiting for any extradition process.
He questioned what wrongdoing Ghanaians committed by voting the NPP into office, noting that party leaders enjoyed the full benefits of power—state privileges, international travel, top-class accommodation, and public respect—throughout their tenure.
He argued that it is unacceptable for the same leaders to now leave the country exposed to international embarrassment.
Kpebu stressed that claims suggesting Ghana is unsafe for Ofori-Atta to return damage the nation’s image, particularly at a time when the former minister is reportedly abroad. He described the situation as humiliating and harmful to Ghana’s credibility.
He further stated that if the NPP is serious about seeking political power again in the future, the party must publicly call on Ofori-Atta to return and face accountability. He added that former President Akufo-Addo has a clear moral responsibility to do the same, given his close family relationship with Ofori-Atta.
According to Kpebu, Akufo-Addo owes Ghanaians transparency and must clearly state what efforts, if any, he is making to ensure Ofori-Atta’s return to Ghana to answer questions surrounding his time in office.
