Child marriage is unacceptable, no number of excuses can be accepted- Emmanuel Oppong.

The Vice President of the Pediatric Society of Ghana, Mr. Emmanuel Oppong, has strongly condemned the recent marriage ceremony between Gborbu Wulormor, aged 63, and a 12-year-old girl.

Addressing the media monitored by Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu, Mr. Oppong stated that the society has issued a letter denouncing the act and called upon both the security agencies and the government to intervene and ensure the release of the innocent girl.

Expressing firm opposition, Mr. Oppong emphasized that child marriage is completely unacceptable in Ghanaian society, and there should be no tolerance for any excuses that may be presented. He highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating that it is troubling for all Ghanaians to witness such a practice in this modern era.

Addressing arguments that not all marriages entail conjugal duties, Mr. Oppong stressed that this does not justify the marriage of a child. He emphasized that such practices do not safeguard the well-being and interests of children, and they must not be condoned.

Furthermore, Mr. Oppong underscored the importance of considering the perception and well-being of the child involved, asserting that any marriage involving an individual under the age of 18 is inherently premature and harmful.
