Carlos Queiroz Set to Extend Stay as Ghana Black Stars Head Coach

Carlos Queiroz is set to continue as head coach of the Ghana Black Stars once his initial contract expires on July 31, 2026, per reports in the local media.

The experienced Portuguese tactician is expected to sign a new two-year deal, with his primary objective being to guide the team to glory at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. This development brings clarity after weeks of speculation surrounding his future, especially following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the round of 32.

Queiroz had taken over on a short-term four-month deal earlier in the year and helped restore credibility to the Black Stars by steering them into the knockout stages of the global tournament.

Despite earlier reports and social media rumors suggesting a possible resignation or departure, the veteran coach has remained in charge, dismissing any notion that he had stepped down and confirming he is still committed to the role.

His leadership during the World Cup campaign was marked by tactical discipline and a renewed sense of purpose within the squad, even if the ultimate goal of advancing further was not achieved. With the 2027 AFCON qualifiers approaching in September, the Ghana Football Association appears keen to retain his expertise as they build toward continental success.

Queiroz, known for his vast experience across multiple national teams and club setups, brings a wealth of knowledge that could prove invaluable for Ghana’s ambitions in the coming years.
