Ghanaian armwrestler Blessed Abeka has clinched gold at the ongoing World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi, India, adding another medal to Ghana’s tally at the competition.

The 47th World Armwrestling Championship and 28th World Para Armwrestling Championship, organised under the World Armwrestling Federation and hosted for the first time in India, runs until 7 November 2026 and has attracted more than 1,700 athletes from over 60 countries.
Ghana’s national team, the Golden Arms, had already secured four silver medals on the opening day in the masters categories. Grace Minta of the Ghana Police Service, the African champion, won silver in both the left- and right-arm Master Women 80 kg events.
Florence Boakye Mensah, also of the Ghana Police Service, took silver in the Master Women +80 kg left-arm category, while Dodzi Asinu claimed silver in the Master Men 110 kg right-arm event.
Blessed Abeka, also known as Blessed Abeka Nunoo or Blessed Naa Abeka Nunoo, competed in the junior women category around the 60-65 kg range.
Abeka is an officer with the Ghana Immigration Service and one of the country’s leading younger armwrestlers.
She previously won double gold in the women’s -60 kg armwrestling events at the 2023 African Games in Accra, secured silver in the junior division at the 2025 World Armwrestling Championship in Bulgaria after adapting her technique, and has claimed golds at regional competitions including the De Fin D’Annee championship in Togo.
The result builds on Ghana’s rapid rise in the sport since the Ghana Armwrestling Federation affiliated with continental and world bodies. The Golden Arms have dominated recent African championships, including a record haul while hosting in 2026, and continue to convert continental success into global podium finishes. Competition remains ongoing, with further Ghanaian athletes still competing in New Delhi.
