(AUDIO): WE WILL DEVELOP A NEW STRATEGY TO ENSURE SAFE TRANSIT ALONG PUSIGA-BAWKU HIGHWAY – PUSIGA SECURITY COUNCIL

Pusiga District Security Council has assured the commuters and the public plying the Pusiga-Bawku highway said, it is taking steps to prevent further attacks on traders who use the highway.


This decision comes after the recent attack on traders that resulted in the death of nine individuals and numerous injuries. Nine people were shot dead in an attack on two buses in Pusiga, in the Upper East Region.


According to sources, the assailants blocked the buses on their way to Bawku from Cinkaasi in neighboring Togo at the Gbewaa College of Education police barrier and opened fire. The identities of the victims have not yet been released by the Police.


The motive for the attack is unknown, but it comes amid a period of tension in the Upper East Region. There have been several clashes between ethnic groups in the region in recent months.
The injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment while the deceased were being moved to a morgue.


Speaking to Ahotor News, the Pusiga District Chief Executive Zuberu Abdulai said the District Security Council will convene a strategic meeting to develop a new strategy to ensure the safe transit of travelers along the route.
