AUDIO: President Mahama Urges Africa to Lead Global Economic Transformation

ACCRA, Ghana, 6 March: President John Dramani Mahama has called on African nations to harness their collective strength and lead the continent’s economic transformation.

In his Independence Day speech, the President noted that Africa’s population of more than 1.4 billion people, combined with its vast natural resources and youthful workforce, places the continent in a strong position to drive global economic growth.

However, he cautioned that Africa must overcome persistent challenges such as climate change, youth unemployment, and conflict in parts of the continent.

President Mahama emphasized that the African Continental Free Trade Area, headquartered in Accra, represents a major opportunity to unlock the continent’s economic potential.

The agreement aims to create a single African market of more than 1.4 billion people, allowing goods, services, and investments to move more freely across borders.

According to the President, Ghana must continue to lead by example by demonstrating that African countries can build strong democracies while achieving economic growth and industrial transformation.

He added that deeper African integration would help break down trade barriers, strengthen partnerships, and position the continent more competitively in the global economy.
