President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday held high-level bilateral talks with Lee Jae Myung, reaffirming the strong and longstanding partnership between Ghana and South Korea.
The meeting concluded with the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering maritime security, climate change cooperation, and digital technology development, a major step toward deepening strategic collaboration between the two nations.
During the discussions, President Mahama emphasised the deep historical ties between Ghana and Korea, noting that both countries share strong democratic traditions and a firm commitment to the protection of human rights.
According to him, these shared values have strengthened cooperation between the two countries on the global stage, particularly within multilateral institutions such as the United Nations, where Ghana and Korea frequently align their positions on key international issues.
The President also highlighted growing cooperation in agriculture and agribusiness, particularly through programmes supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency. These initiatives are focused on improving rice production and strengthening food security in Ghana.
President Mahama further pointed to the vast opportunities for expanded economic collaboration through the African Continental Free Trade Area, whose Secretariat is based in Accra. He noted that Ghana’s position as host of the AfCFTA Secretariat places the country in a strategic position to serve as a gateway for manufacturing and exports to the broader African market.
Expressing optimism about the future of the partnership, President Mahama said Ghana’s abundant natural and human resources, combined with Korea’s technological innovation and industrial expertise, would continue to drive a mutually beneficial relationship focused on sustainable development, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
